Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Rides Motorbike To Lead Yatra Ahead Of Polls

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Monday rode a motorcycle to lead the ruling Congress' 'Bharosa Yatra' in his assembly constituency in Durg district to propagate the works done by his government in the last five years.

Similar day-long Bharosa Yatras (march of trust) were also taken out in the remaining 89 assembly constituencies of the poll-bound state by the Congress to mark Gandhi Jayanti.

During the yatras, the Congress said, it apprised people about welfare schemes of the Baghel government and also told them how the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) neglected the residents of the state during its 15-year rule (2003-2018).

Riding motorcycles, a large number of ruling party leaders and workers accompanied Bhupesh Baghel in the 40-km-long yatra kicked off from Selud village in the Patan assembly constituency in Durg district.

Addressing a gathering of workers at the launch of the yatra, Baghel hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his statement on paddy procurement in Chhattisgarh.

"The PM lied (during his recent rally in Bilaspur) to people that the Centre procured every single grain of paddy from farmers in the state. Who has opened paddy procurement centres? Who has decided to procure 20 quintal paddy per acre? All these works are being done by the state government," the chief minister said.

When there was a "double-engine" government in Chhattisgarh (2014-2018), with PM Modi and Raman Singh leading the central and state governments, respectively, they had decided to procure 10 quintal per acre from farmers in place of 15 quintal per acre, he said.

Bhupesh Baghel said his government has strengthened the local economy and transformed the lives of people.

"We have improved education, health and infrastructure in the last five years," he asserted.

Talking to reporters later, Mr Baghel said his party Congress has decided to observe a peaceful 'Bastar Bandh' (shutdown) on Wednesday in protest against the Centre's plan to privatise the newly commissioned Nagarnar Steel Plant of mining major NMDC in Bastar district.

Prime Minister Modi will dedicate the plant to the nation during his visit to Jagdalpur on Wednesday.

Baghel accused the opposition BJP of spreading rumours on alleged irregularities in recruitment by the state public service commission (PSC).

Earlier, state ministers, Congress MLAs and MPs took part in the yatras in their respective constituencies.

The assembly elections are expected to be held in the state in November-December.

The state government had in the last few months organised 'Bharose Ka Sammelan' (gathering of trust) at various places to connect with the masses. These events were also attended by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi.

Slogans like 'Bhupesh Hai To Bharosa hai' (if there is Bhupesh, we have trust) and 'Bharose Ki Sarkar' (government of trust) featured during these programmes.

The opposition BJP concluded its 'Parivartan Yatra' (March of Change) on Saturday (September 30) in Bilaspur city where Prime Minister Modi addressed a gathering.

Watch: Nitin Gadkari Takes A "Test Drive" On Hydrogen Bus In Prague

Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, who is on an official visit to Czech Republic, took a test drive on a hydrogen bus in Prague today. Mr Gadkari, flanked by several officials, was seen riding the bus, in a video posted on X, formerly Twitter.

"Hydrogen buses hold significant promise in reducing carbon emissions and addressing environmental concerns, contributing to a cleaner and greener future," read the caption.

The office of Nitin Gadkari also shared a series of photos of his test drive on X with the caption, "Union Minister Shri
@nitin_gadkari Ji took a test drive in a Hydrogen Bus by Skoda in Prague, Czech Republic today, showcasing India's commitment to exploring sustainable and eco-friendly mobility solutions."

Hydrogen fuel cell powered buses use hydrogen and air to generate electricity and are more sustainable and eco-friendly mode of public transport.

Nitin Gadkari reached Czech Republic yesterday where he got a "traditional Maharashtrian" welcome at the Prague airport.

Earlier today, he participated in the Ministerial session on Road Safety at the 27th World Road Congress in Prague. He reiterated India's commitment to achieving global road safety targets set in the Stockholm Declaration, according to an official statement.

Nitin Gadkari has long been an advocate of transition to renewables and green energy. Earlier this year in March, he rolled into the Parliament in a green hydrogen-powered car - the first of its kind in India.

Nitin Gadkari also launched India's first hydrogen-based advanced "Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV)" - Toyota Mirai in March this year. He had also shared a video of how green hydrogen can power a car. At the launch, he said that green hydrogen was "an efficient, eco-friendly and sustainable energy pathway to make India energy self-reliant".

Nitin Gadkari had in January announced that he would himself use a hydrogen-powered car. "Toyota Company from Japan has given me a vehicle which runs on green Hydrogen. I will use it myself as a pilot project (on alternative fuel)," he had said.

Nitin Gadkari has often favoured a green transition in fuel, saying rapid strides in green fuel technology will reduce the cost of electric vehicles (EVs), bringing them on a par with petrol-run vehicles in two years' time.

Mother Glued To Her Phone, 3-Year-Old Drowns At US Water Park: Cops

A three-year-old boy drowned at a waterpark in Texas, United States, while his mother was engrossed in her phone for hours, singing along to music, according to the police. However, her lawyer blamed lifeguards for not being attentive, as reported by The New York Post. The incident occurred at Camp Cohen water park in El Paso.

Jessica Weaver (35) faced accusations of negligence and was charged in connection with the tragic death of her only child, Anthony Leo Malave. Several eyewitnesses also held her accountable for the incident, citing her alleged reckless inattentiveness in the lead-up to her son's drowning during the "soft opening" of the city-owned park in May, as reported by the El Paso Times.

On August 30, Mrs Weaver was apprehended in her hometown of Indiana, where she willingly agreed to extradition. She was then placed in custody at the El Paso County Jail on September 22 and was released on a $100,000 surety bond, according to the news outlet.

During the incident, it was one of the 18 lifeguards on duty at the park who rescued the three-year-old from a four-foot-deep section of the pool.

The child was not wearing a life vest, even though the facility had these devices available for guests, as reported in the paper.

Signs at Camp Cohen indicate that children under six must be actively supervised by a swimming adult, with an adult nearby for oversight at all times.

One witness described a woman who matched Mrs Weaver's appearance as being entirely absorbed in her phone by the pool, not looking up or paying attention to anything, for over an hour.

Another witness mentioned that the woman, whom he believed to be alone, was continuously taking photos while she was at the pool.

A third individual witnessed the woman singing along to a song playing and reclining, engrossed in her phone, approximately seven minutes before the child/victim was pulled out of the water, according to the report.

Telangana Minister Responds To PM Modi's "Family-Run Party" Swipe At KCR

Ruling BRS Working President K T Rama Rao on Sunday said the party is a family of four crore people in Telangana and that Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is the head of the family.

Responding to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's comments at a public meeting at Mahabubnagar in Telangana that "two family-run parties have stalled the progress of Telangana," Rama Rao said CM KCR took the place of a son who provided social security pensions to the senior citizens and stood as a brother to the farmers by giving 'Rythu Bandhu' investment support scheme and 'Rythu Beema' life insurance scheme for ryots.

"KCR is a member of every family in Telangana," Rama Rao, son of Chandrasekhar Rao, said.

The BRS leader alleged that PM Modi "cheated the people of Ramagundam" by auctioning Singerani coal mines in an attempt to privatise the state-run mining company.

"The strategy of the PM was to push state-run companies into losses and later privatise them for the benefit of his corporate friends," he said.

Attacking the Congress over its six 'guarantees' made to Telangana people ahead of the assembly polls, Rama Rao claimed that three things are guaranteed if Congress comes to power. They are a three-hour power supply instead of a 24x7 power supply given by the BRS government, a change of chief minister every year and a lot of scams, he claimed.

Rama Rao made these comments while addressing gatherings after participating in various development programmes at Chennur, Ramagundem and Peddapalli assembly constituencies today.

Sounding the BJP's poll bugle for the upcoming assembly elections in Telangana, PM Modi today asserted that "Telangana wants a change" and wants the BJP to come to power -- making a veiled attack on the alleged corruption perpetrated by the BRS government.

Addressing a public meeting organised by the BJP at Mahabubnagar, he said Telangana wants a change as people would like to see a "transparent and honest government and not a corrupt one".

He further said BRS is in power in the state but the "steering" of the car (BRS election symbol) is in the hands of someone else. "You also know who is running the Telangana government. Two family-run parties have stalled the progress of Telangana. The identity of the two family-run parties is with corruption and commission," he said.

The "formula" of these two parties is "of the family, for the family and by the family", he alleged.

"These people are making democracy as 'parivar-tantra' (family system). They run a political party as a private limited company. The president, CEO, director, general manager, manager, all belong to the family. Outsiders are hired as support staff just for the sake of it," he claimed.

The family-run parties are only concerned about their own good, but BJP is focused on providing a better quality of life to the common people, PM Modi said.

"Won't Walk Away": Biden Vows Ukraine Support, Urges Republicans To "Stop The Games"

President Joe Biden on Sunday vowed the United States would not abandon Ukraine despite aid being dropped from a deal to avoid a government shutdown, urging Republicans to "stop the games" on funding.

"I want to assure our American allies, the American people, and the people in Ukraine that you can count on our support. We will not walk away," Biden said in an address from the White House.

Biden said there was an "overwhelming sense of urgency" to get Congress to pass a new package of assistance to Ukraine in the days and weeks to come as it battles the Russian invasion.

An 11th-hour deal by Congress late Saturday to avoid a US government shutdown contained no new war-time aid for Ukraine as part of a compromise between Republicans and Democrats.

Democrat Biden lashed out at Republicans and called on House Speaker Kevin McCarthy to avoid another shutdown drama when the 45-day stopgap deal agreed on Saturday runs out.

"I'm sick and tired of the brinksmanship," Biden said, speaking from the Roosevelt Room at the White House.

"The brinksmanship has to end. There shouldn't be another crisis."

Indian-Origin UK MP Hails Yogi Adityanath For UP's "Changed Perception"

A British MP sent a postcard to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, congratulating him for the "changed perception" of the state.

The British MP of Indian origin, Virendra Sharma, in his postcard, wrote, "Honorable Yogi Adityanath, I would like to congratulate you for achieving great successes in UP and bringing peace to the state".

On this occasion, author Shantanu Gupta presented his best-selling graphic novel - "Ajay to Yogi Adityanath" to the British MP. Each of his graphic novels contains a postcard to send a message to UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Virendra Sharma also wrote a message.

Speaking at the House of Commons, author Shantanu Gupta discussed the developmental journey of Uttar Pradesh.

He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has created 'Brand India' across the world, because of which Indians are given more importance across the world today, and ‘Brand UP' has become a strong brand across India.

Shantanu Gupta further said that the same Uttar Pradesh, which was once known for anarchy, corruption, and inefficient governance, is now a top investment destination under the Yogi government. In the ranking of ‘Ease of Doing Business', UP jumped from 14th place before 2017 to second position.

The author also mentioned that Uttar Pradesh is currently ranked number 1 in the implementation of more than 40 schemes of the Central Government. Today, Uttar Pradesh is known for its achievements such as the Uttar Pradesh Expressway, new airports, 24-hour electricity, and a strong law and order situation.

Mr Gupta shared some fascinating conversations between him and Yogi Adityanath's father, Anand Singh Bisht.

The author told the British Parliament that during his research, Anand Bisht revealed that a small blue one-and-a-half-room house in Uttarakhand's Panchur village was his only possession in life. This was all he could earn in his lifetime from the humble job of a forest guard.
